I began writing this blog with the goal of helping others obtain the mindset needed to gain wealth, as I believe your mindset is more important to wealth building than the skills you possess. With this said, I am not interested in seeing more rich people I am interested in seeing more successful people that know how to be rich with life and with money (Are You Rich?). This world is full of people with great wealth that believe their riches are for their own consumption. While there is nothing wrong with consuming what you have worked hard to earn, it’s important to have the proper perspective on wealth.
Do you view your wealth, or the wealth you’re working toward, as a luxury or as a responsibility? The answer to this question will shed light on your perspective of money and wealth. Society can easily brainwash us into thinking that our wealth is solely for our own luxury. Just watch TV for a few minutes and you will see this mentality over and over again. We almost idolize the rich, and the more lavish they live the more fascinated with them we become. All too often we see these same individuals lose all of their wealth after a while. This is what happens when you have a skewed perspective of wealth. When you believe that your riches are for your consumption only, your wealth will consume you!
Challenge yourself to think differently about money. If you are already wealthy evaluate your giving (The Art of Being Thankful). If you desire to have wealth, take time to think about why you want to be wealthy. Of course it’s okay to take nice vacations, drive nice cars and live in your dream house, but you must make sure that your wealth isn’t consuming you!
I believe strongly that our wealth is a responsibility and not one to be taken lightly. Scripture teaches us how to be rich in Timothy 6:17-19 stating:
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
I understand that many of you reading this may not be Christians; however no matter what your faith is the principle taught here is truth! My hope is that I will not only help you become more wealthy by helping you change your mindset, but just as important, I hope that you reach true success by attaining balance and satisfaction in life beyond the short term happiness that consuming will give you.
What would the world look like if we all had this mindset and sought just as much to give generously as we did to consume? Click here to leave a reply.
