We are all looking for ways to get maximum results in all areas of our lives. The problem is that we think in order to receive exponential results we must invest exponential time. This, however, is not true. To receive greater results we simply have to take a lesson from the Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger!
To this day, Arnold is one of the first images we see when we think of a muscular body. The way that Arnold achieved his amazing physique was in large part contributed to what he coined as “cheat reps”. You see Arnold was an absolute stickler for perfect form. In fact, if you watch any old videos of Arnold you will find him using nearly flawless form; that is until he gets to the point of exhaustion. At this point Arnold incorporates the “cheat rep” to his workout. Once he reached the point of exhaustion he would then cheat his way through another 2-5 reps. In the case of bicep curls he would do 15-20 perfect curls until he could no longer do another then he would use the rest of his body, rocking and torquing to squeeze a few more reps into his workout.
Arnold’s “cheat rep” is also the secret to exponential results in our own lives. You see, what Arnold knew was that the final 3-5 imperfect reps after his reps in perfect form were what truly brought about substantial results. Not doing 20 more reps, simply doing a couple extra!
We must remember this as we strive to excel. It doesn’t take double the work to accomplish significant returns. It takes going just a little bit farther than the average achiever. If you add “cheat reps” to your life, consistently over time you will certainly see exponential growth.
A word of caution: don’t forget that before Arnold added the cheat rep, he first did everything he could in perfect form to be successful. So, if you want to achieve greatness start by analyzing your daily routines. Ensure that you are doing the right things in your life, career and relationships. Once you have accomplished the expected, add a few cheat reps and see what happens!
