That’s how many chances I have to make a difference, to reach my goals, to fulfill my purpose in this life.
Well, maybe not. It could be more, or it could be much less! However, if averages are true then this number is correct.
How many chances do you have? Well, let me help you figure it out. Based on statistics, the average man living in the 21st century America will live seventy-three years.
The average woman will live seventy-nine years. Now take your current age and subtract it from your average and then multiply this number by 365 days. Based on your current age and the average life expectancy of Americans, how many days do you have left to live? I have 14,235 and by the time you read this it will be less.
Eye-opening isn’t it? 14,235 days doesn’t seem like that long, in fact it really puts the brevity of life into perspective. Sometimes reality is scary! Average performers/achievers allow themselves to live in mild delusion, knowing the clock is ticking and the amount of days left is uncertain. The opposite is true for high level performers/achievers. They live life from the reality that time is a limited commodity and what is not accomplished today will never be regained.
This reality is one of the reasons that great achievers pursue lofty, and sometimes extreme, goals. They live life with a sense of urgency. Urgency for the moment, urgency for the day, urgency for the accomplishment of goals and urgency for their ability to reach their God-given purpose in life!
Do you have a sense of urgency in your life? Are you creating lofty goals? Do those around you often think your vision is a little crazy? If not, now is the time to find that spark of a vision or dream and fan those flames until they ignite into a life changing passion! Now take the approximate number of days you have left to live from your calculation, write them on a sticky note and keep this number in a place you will see daily. This constant reminder will keep you from the delusion that there will always be time tomorrow and will keep you in the reality that the clock is ticking and there is no time to waste. I have to go now… I have a lot to do and just 14,235 chances to do them!
