I have recently written several blogs regarding setting goals and implementing strategies that will help you attain them. You can read these blogs by clicking on the following links: Time to Relax, Plan the Life You Want, and Burn the Ships! This will be the last post (at least for a little while) that I will write concerning goal setting. Earlier today I was listening to a podcast by Darren HardyThe Compound Effect, and something was said during the interview that I would like to share.
His guest Brian Tracy, another bestselling author and expert in the area of setting and accomplishing goals, gave great advice. Brian said (I paraphrase) if you want to make this year the greatest year of your life you need to set goals to make it happen. However, before you do this, fast forward to December 31, 2013. What would you have to accomplish by this date that would allow you to say, “This was the best year of my life!”? Take time to visualize these accomplishments and write them down. This will give you the desired outcome that you will then plan your goals around.
I know this is not the most profound statement you have ever heard, but this exercise has the ability to change our lives! Similar to my post, Plan the Life You Want
The following is why I find it so vital to fast forward to the end of the year and ask, “What would make this the best year of my life?”
Having the best year of your life this year doesn’t keep you from having the best year of your life next year! Like my football coach would often say, “The most important game of your life is this Saturday, not the last game and not the game next week, but the game that is in front of you!” The same can be said about our lives. The most important year of your life is in front of you no matter your age or your previous accomplishments.
So here is to 2013, the best year of your life! Have fun with this exercise and let your mind travel into areas that you have yet to venture. Remember this is the most important year of your life, treat it that way!
What are some accomplishments that would make this year the best year ever?
