My last post covered four of the fundamentals of my business, Foundation Companies. I hope that you were able to take something from each of these items that will help you in your journey of success. Today I will write about the last 3 fundamentals. I just hope you like lemonade…
Fundamental #5: Drink A Lot of LEMONADE!
If you ever spend much time in my office you will most likely hear this phrase yelled down the hallway, “Let’s make some lemonade!”
This statement comes from the famous saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”. We, as a company, have strived to stay true to this thought. There have been times in our business when I told Mark (my business partner) that we should probably open a lemonade stand! One thing is certain, if you are in business long enough you will have adversity. In fact if you are in business for very long at all you will have adversity. If you aren’t facing adversity, then chances are you probably aren’t trying hard enough.
When adversity strikes we have a decision to make. We can either feel sorry for ourselves or we can find a silver lining. Opportunity usually comes in the form of adversity. So the next time you are confronted with a problem remember the phrase, “Let’s make some lemonade!”
Fundamental #6: There is No Substitute for HARD WORK!
In life there are few things we can actually control. We can’t control the level of talent we were born with. We can’t control the level of wealth we were born into. We can’t control who is in our family (although this would be nice). However, one thing that we can control is how hard we work. Hard work levels the playing field. Give me a person with average talent and great work ethic over a super talented lazy person every time. Work hard and good things will happen!
Fundamental #7: GIVE BACK WHAT IS GIVEN!
Although I am motivated to give back for many reasons, my faith plays the biggest role. I believe that all that I have is a gift from God. Because of this, giving back what has been given to me is very important. While I have worked hard and made some good business decisions, I know that without the blessing of God I would not be where I am.
Faith doesn’t have to be your reason for wanting to give. In fact, your reasons for giving are your business. I believe that no matter your motivation, if you want to see true success, giving MUST be a part of your life. The Bible is clear that you reap what you sow (Galatians 6:7-8). If you want to experience true success and satisfaction I believe you must be willing to help others and give back what has been given to you!
